New Regulations of the General Administration of Customs: Great Relaxation of Aquatic Product Import Access!| Shanghai Import/Export Agent

In June 2011,Chinas Ministry of Health issued an announcement requiring that the maximum residue limits of DEHP,DINP,and DBP in food and food additives be 1.5mg/kg,9.0mg/kg,and 0.3mg/kg respectively.In November 2019,the State Administration for Market Regulation issued an announcement requiring that the contents of DEHP and DBP in baijiu and other distilled spirits should not be higher than 5mg/kg and 1mg/kg respectively.

In addition,China also has corresponding restrictions on plasticizers in childrens products such as toys,school supplies,toothbrushes,and oral cleaning appliances.

Toy Safety - Part 1: Basic Specifications (GB 6675.1 - 2014) stipulates the following for touchable toy materials and materials in components: The total content of the three plasticizers DBP,BBP,and DEHP in all products shall not exceed 0.1%; for products that can be put into the mouth,the total content of the three plasticizers DNOP,DINP,and DIDP shall also not exceed 0.1%.

The General Technical Requirements for the Safety of Toothbrushes and Oral Appliances (GB 39669 - 2020),which was officially implemented on January 1,2022,stipulates that for childrens toothbrushes,the total content of the three plasticizers DBP,BBP,and DEHP in the mouth - entering and touchable parts shall not exceed 0.1%,and at the same time,the total content of the three plasticizers DNOP,DINP,and DIDP shall not exceed 0.1%; the requirements for the mouth - entering parts of adult toothbrushes are the same as above.

The General Safety Requirements for School Supplies (GB 21027 - 2020),which was officially implemented on February 1,2022,stipulates that the total content of the three phthalates DEHP,DBP,and BBP in touchable plastic parts shall not exceed 1000mg/kg (i.e.the content shall not exceed 0.1%).

Many Western developed countries and regions have also successively introduced bans or restrictions on the use of certain plasticizers in fields such as toys,food and pharmaceutical packaging.For example,in October 2017,the US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued requirements for the phthalate content in toys and childrens products,stipulating that the content of 8 phthalates (BBP,DBP,DEHP,DIBP,DINP,DPENP,DHEXP,and DCHP) in toys and childrens products shall not exceed 0.1%.
